This is a beautiful example of positive reinforcement Re-training.
Previous owners had sent Mississippi to a 5 week crash training right before I got her a year and a half ago. All it did was make her terrified of being ridden, as evidenced by my first ride where she promptly slid me off. The harsh training methods, combined with her high-strung personality, made for a disastrous opinion of humans being on her back. I spent the first year just letting her settle into her new home, make friends with the herd, and build a trust relationship with me. Now we are starting over and making a human passenger a lovey experience. No rush. Just friendship and love.
