Barn Time After the Storm

Writer's picture: Melinda StarrMelinda Starr

Even on the coldest, rainiest winter days, we don’t skip barn time! Every evening, I call out “Baaarn Tiiime”, and the herd comes running.

This evening routine gives each of our 14 horses a moment of peace in their stall to enjoy their grass pellets or, for our elders, their well-earned senior feed. It’s my chance to check in on everyone, ensuring they are ok.

After about 20 minutes, their stall doors open, and they return to their 30 acres of open pasture, where they live in freedom as a herd. It’s a simple yet deeply fulfilling rhythm of our life here—one built on connection.

Here’s a little glimpse into our barn time and the heart of our barn.
